Apple Reportedly Lowers 2022 AirPods Production

Apple is planning to reduce production orders for its AirPods earphones by more than 10 million units for 2022, as the company predicts lukewarm demand and is seeking to reduce idle inventory, Nikkei reported on Monday, citing sources briefed on the matter.

Affected by this news, the share prices of Apple parts foundries fell one after another on Tuesday. As of press time, GoerTek had fallen 8.22%, Luxshare Precision had fallen 6.26%, and Gettop Acoustic had fallen 5.62%.

Goertek is a leading listed company in the acoustics industry and a member of the Apple OEM industry chain. The company provides Apple with two MEMS microphones for AirPods, and Apple is its main revenue source. According to 21st Century Business Herald, a Goertek spokesperson declined to comment on the news, but mentioned that the company’s current production is all normal and that no major changes have taken place. In addition, he reminded investors to pay attention to screening market news.

Luxshare Precision’s main business is the manufacturing of consumer electronics. The firm is also an OEM for Apple’s AirPods and iPhone products. Luxshare Precision also said on Tuesday that the company maintains stable cooperation with customers in the acoustic wearable products field. At present, the company’s orders are growing as expected.

Also worth noting, DigiTimes reported earlier in March that Luxshare Precision is among possible candidates for producing the potential and highly anticipated Apple Car, due to its foray into the new energy vehicle market.
