OnePlus Announces Its Return to Indonesian Market

On April 2, Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus announced its return to the Indonesian market. Previously, the company had decided to withdraw from the Indonesian market in 2016 and disbanded its team in June of that year.

In January 2015, OnePlus partnered exclusively with Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce platform Lazada to enter the Indonesian market. However, in the same year, the Indonesian government passed a law requiring foreign phone manufacturers selling 4G smartphones in the country to use components produced locally (including hardware and software) accounting for at least 30% of total components used. The law took effect in 2017.

OnePlus found it too expensive to fully comply with this regulation before 2017. The company explained that complying with these standards would require building factories or outsourcing production through local factories. However, frequent changes and interpretations of regulations by the Indonesian government have caused significant harm to OnePlus as a newcomer to the market.

It is worth mentioning that the OnePlus 11 Jupiter Rock Limited Edition smartphone was officially launched for sale in China at a starting price of RMB4899 yuan ($711.17). This new model uses industry-first technology called “3D microcrystalline rock,” which has extremely high material processing difficulty but provides unique texture and reliability.

The OnePlus 11 Jupiter Rock Limited Edition features a back cover that not only highlights the beauty of Jupiter but also provides an exceptional tactile experience. The design process involved extensive research on nine distinct techniques, including “natural grain,” and was entirely hand-selected to ensure top-notch quality.

After announcing their re-entry into the Indonesian market, it remains uncertain whether this new model will also be available for purchase there.
