Huawei Launches Another Virtual Reality Headset

Chinese tech giant Huawei released its new virtual reality (VR) glasses named HUAWEI VR Glass at the launch event on September 26.

This is the third generation of VR glasses that Huawei has launched after previous versions in 2016 and 2017, as the company is keen to capitalize on the upcoming VR trend brought about by 5G networking.

Compared with the previous two models which were sort of heavy, the new one is only 26.6-centimeter-thick and weighs 166 grams, just 30% of its competitor Oculus Quest. The ultra short focal optical module is the key to support intelligibility on such a small device.

The glass has two independent Fast LCD screens with a resolution of 3K to ensure footage clarity. The headset is equipped with double semi-open speakers for sound.

With the glass, consumers can enjoy IMAX movies and trendy TV series from various platforms, including iQiyi and Youku, two of China’s major video platforms. It can also connect with smartphones, laptops and TV to provide VR experiences.

Nearsighted people are also included in the target user group, as the glass uses negative diopter lenses.

Once 5G becomes popular, VR can be the third screen beside a smartphone and a TV to be used in various applications, including but not limited to video games and watching movies.
