Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Will Debut Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Chip

Following Qualcomm’s announcement of its two new 5G chips; the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765G, at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit on December 3, Xiaomi announced that they will be the first to use the new chipsets.

Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin announced that the Xiaomi Mi 10 will debut the new Snapdragon 865. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 865 ranks first among Android processors in terms of CPU, GPU, AI and camera performance. As for the Mi 10, few details are known about the new flagship phone, however, Lin mentioned the 108 MP camera used in the Xiaomi Mi CC9 and Mi Note 10, so it is possible the Mi 10 could use the same sensor.

At the same time, Redmi officially announced on Weibo that their new K30 series will debut the Snapdragon 765G chip. Qualcomm said that Snapdragon 765G, which is cheaper than the 865 chip and often found in mid-tier handsets, will include 5G connectivity in an effort to popularize the technology through an affordable phone.

This is not the first time Xiaomi will be the first to showcase Qualcomm’s new chipsets, as the Xiaomi 8SE debuted the Snapdragon 710 CPU, while Snapdragon 855 was first seen in the Xiaomi Mi 9. Lin Bin stated that the partnership with Qualcomm is of great importance to Xiaomi, with over 427 million Xiaomi smartphones using Qualcomm processors.

Lin also announced that Xiaomi’s Mi Watch will get a 5G modem next year, making it the first smartwatch that can connect to 5G networks.
