Xiaomi Unveils Redmi K40 Series with Snapdragon 888 Chipset

Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi released its flagship K40 Series on Thursday, which includes three models: the K40, K40 Pro and K40 Pro Plus.

All three devices boast a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800-series chipsets. The K40 Pro and Pro Plus are powered by the latest Snapdragon 888 processor.

The 5G phones feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and run on Android 11-based MIUI 12. They also pack a 4,520mAh battery with 33W wired charging, enabling a complete charge in just 52 minutes.

All devices in the Redmi K40 series are available in black, white and sky blue. While pre-orders in China have already begun, it is not yet clear if the device will be available in international markets.

The primary camera differs in each of the model’s rear triple camera setup. The K40 Pro+ is equipped with a 108-megapixel sensor in its main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 5-megapixel telephoto macro shooter.

The K40 Pro has a main 64-megapixel sensor in its rear camera, while the vanilla K40 features a 48-megapixel camera. The rest of the camera setup is the same. All three devices include the same 20-megapixel punch-hole on the top-center for their selfie cameras.

Prices start at 3,699 yuan ($572) for the single Redmi K40 Pro Plus 12GB RAM + 256GB variant.

The Redmi K40 Pro price is set at 2,799 yuan ($433) for the 6GB + 128GB model, 2,999 yuan ($464) for the 8GB + 128GB model, and 3,299 yuan ($510) for the 8GB + 256GB model.

As for the Redmi K40, prices start at 1,999 yuan ($309) for the base 6GB + 128GB model. This is followed by three additional models ranging from 2,199 yuan ($340) to 2,699 yuan ($417) depending on the configuration.

The company also announced the launch of gaming accessories, including shoulder buttons for the series, as well as wireless earphones Redmi AirDots 3, laptop lineup RedmiBook Pro 14 and 15, and its Redmi Max 86 TV. 

The massive smart TV features an 86-inch LED-backlit LCD panel with a 4K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It retails for 7,999 yuan ($1,239), and will be available for purchase in China on Mar. 4.
