UC Browser Reaches 170M Active Monthly Users in India, Indonesia

UC Browser announced its monthly active user count in India and Indonesia reached 170 million, with 130 million in India and 40 million in Indonesia.

The company recently released version 12.0 of its browser for the Indonesian market. The new version improves video playback and saves more than 50 percent of mobile traffic of previous releases. The update reflects a deepening localization strategy by UC. With its improved U4 kernel, video decoding technology and algorithms, many Indian and Indonesian users who buy low-end handsets can enjoy faster and more intelligent consumption experience.

UC data shows that since 2016, when UC Browser switched from being a tool to a content distribution platform, video has become the most popular activity of Indian and Indonesian users. From the second quarter to the fourth quarter of 2017, the data flow of UC Browser users in Indian and Indonesian markets increased 50 percent. The video speed increased 60 percent.

“Half of India’s users and a third of Indonesian users watch videos on browser. Therefore, in 12.0, we gave priority to enhancing the video experience and accelerating video loading technology,” said Li Shan, Head of International Browser for UC Department, Alibaba Entertainment Group.
