Tesla China Lays Off 10% of Workforce

According to Sina Tech on Thursday, many sources are saying that Tesla China has begun a layoff plan in which 10% of the staff will be let go. However, such plan does not involve the manufacturing department. Tesla China did not respond to the news yet.

A source familiar with the matter said it was part of Tesla’s global layoff plan. On June 21, media reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the Qatar Economic Forum that the company would cut its full-time workforce by 10%, while increasing the number of part-time workers on an hourly basis and reducing the overall workforce by 3-3.5%.

On its official website, Tesla China has recently added internship recruitments. Previous reports said Tesla China suspended hiring for functional positions except for manufacturing positions. Sina Tech learned that in the last week of May, Tesla China suspended the onboarding process for non-manufacturing positions.

These sources declined to give more details about the layoffs at the company because they feared it could disrupt the departure process. “Layoffs occurred in many functional departments except for manufacturing,” the sources said.
