Redmi to Premier MediaTek’s First Mobile Chips for Gaming

Taiwanese chip producer MediaTek (MTK) announced the launch of its first mobile phone chip series, the Helio G90, and the chip-level game optimization engine technology MediaTek HyperEngine. The technology is optimized to tackle four aspects critical to mobile gaming: game network delay, control, picture quality, and load control.

Dr. Li Yanji, Associate of MediaTek Wireless Communications Division, said, “Game, social and shopping have become the top three categories of apps for smartphones. Our new Helio G90 series chips are dedicated to bringing a better experience to consumers, especially upgrading their gaming experience.”

Xiaomi’s Redmi brand will premiere the G90 chip globally. Lu Weibing, vice president of Xiaomi Group and general manager of Redmi, pointed out that with the popularity of e-sports and mobile games, gamers have higher performance requirements for their handsets.

The Helio G90T, the top chip in the series, is the world’s first chip to receive the TÜV Rheinland mobile game experience certification. It supports a 90Hz screen refresh rate and ultra-high-definition cameras of 64-megapixels. The Helio G90T chip packs two ARM Cortex-A76 and six Cortex-A55 cores, an ARM Mali G76 GPU clocked up to 800MHz and supporting up to 10GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

Redmi officially separated from Xiaomi in January and is currently an independent technology brand under Xiaomi Group that provides hip and affordable products for younger audiences around the world.
