OnePlus Will Make More Than Just Flagship Phones With Upcoming Smart TV

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus’ smart TV will likely come in variable sizes, and be launched in September across China, India and the US, according to a listing filed on Bluetooth SIG. However, OnePlus told Pandaily that it will only be launched in India this year and may be rolled out in other countries next year.

Joining competitors such as Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor, who released a smart display just last week, and Xiaomi who has been making smart TVs since last year, OnePlus may be breaking into the smart home appliances sector starting with TVs and expanding to other sectors in the future.

“We believe your TV has the potential to be so much more than where you watch your favorite shows,” OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said on the OnePlus online forums last year. “We want to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity.”

Lau explained that that the decision to break into the smart television sector is “the first step in building a connected human experience.”

Known for its flagship smartphones, OnePlus boasts a massive catalog of accessories including wireless earphones, car chargers, backpacks and many more, but it has never ventured out to make more complex and large-sized devices such as a televisions.

OnePlus’ TVs were spotted in a submission to the Bluetooth SIG, giving consumers a first glance at details about the upcoming televisions since the company announced it was getting into the market last year. The listing describes the TVs as a “unique Android TV,” which will feature LED display technology and come in variable sizes ranging from 43 to 75 inches.

From their model numbers and codes, it appears that the TVs are planned for the Indian, Chinese, and US markets. The 43-inch model seems to be exclusive to India, while the 75-inch model will only come to the US and China. According to MySmartPrice who first spotted the listing, OnePlus will launch the TV sets at the end of September, although it notes that the exact date could change between now and then.

Aside from the intended markets and display panel sizes, the listing does not provide any further information regarding specs of the television.
