NIO Launches In-Car AR Glasses Co-Developed With Nreal

On September 5, Chinese new energy vehicle company NIO announced that its NIO Air AR Glasses, which have been co-developed alongside AR startup Nreal, are now available on the firm’s online store.

With these glasses, users will enjoy a cinema-quality in-car 3D viewing experience with an equivalent “130-inch HD giant screen + 256-color ambient lighting + Dolby Atmos + 7.1.4 immersive sound stereo.” NIO Air AR Glasses are available in a limited quantity for pre-sale on September 5 at 10:30 a.m. on the NIO App online store. The first pair of discounted sets are priced at 2,299 yuan ($331) for pre-sale and will start shipping in mid-to-late September.

NIO Air AR Glasses are jointly developed by NIO and Nreal, an innovative AR device company with investment from NIO Capital. It supports binocular 1080P 3D display and 108% sRGB color gamut coverage, and provides users with a full sensory experience, with 7.1.4 immersive sound audio system and Dolby Atmos technology. NIO describes the AR glasses as an essential part of its panoramic digital cockpit, PanoCinema.

This is the world’s only AR glasses product with in-vehicle anti-shake function. The anti-shake and anti-glare technology jointly developed by NIO and Nreal is based on multimodal perception fusion of glasses and cockpit sensors and can provide users with a comfortable viewing experience during vehicle driving.

With the XR OS, an exclusive in-vehicle AR operating interface developed by NIO, users can control AR and vehicle cockpit functions through NOMI voice, NIO Air Ring and an exclusive mobile app when using AR glasses. The NIO AIR Smart Ring, jointly developed and manufactured by NIO and NOLO, is a 3DoF remote control that supports spatial interaction and can be used as a remote control in the NIO cockpit with NIO Air AR Glasses to control content and interaction in XR OS.

In terms of content, NIO will provide users with nearly 200 3D movies and over 260 Dolby Atmos movies through the iQIYI app.
