NIO Announces OTA Upgrade, Adding Emergency Assistance Function for Drivers

NIO Inc. announced an OTA upgrade through its official WeChat account on Wednesday, saying that the Aspen 3.0.0 version was officially released on August 31st, and vehicles with the current 2.9.0 version and above would soon receive an upgrade notice.

NIO Pilot was also improved by adding the driver emergency assistance (EDA) function. That is, in the Pilot / NOP state, the driver’s ability to control the vehicle will be continuously tested to ensure safe operation of the vehicle while it is moving..

In August, Lin Wenqin, founder of Meiyihao, died of a traffic accident while driving one of NIO‘s ES8 cars with NOP pilot enabled. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The accident has initiated discussion about the idea of “automatic driving” and “assisted driving”. Lin’s family members have accused Nio of helping to destroy and falsify evidence.

At the end of August, NIO sent a “Pilot Exam” through its official app, which includes a six-minute video and ten Q&As, to teach car owners about the proper usage usage and limitations of the assisted driving system.
