New Vivo Smartphone Rumored to Adopt 120W Fast Charging

Chinese smartphone manufacturer vivo released the X80 series smartphone on April 25. The fast-charging scheme of the upgraded version of vivo X80 was exposed on August 4.

According to Chinese tech industry Weibo blogger “Digital Chat Station,” the upgraded version of the vivo X80 (to be named vivo X90 series with high probability) is testing 120W fast charging, and the charging head will be upgraded completely. At present, there are two charging schemes to choose from, and vivo is reportedly struggling over whether to upgrade to 120W fast charging or the combination of 80W wired + 50W wireless charging.

Regarding the matter, some web users said in the comment area of the post that 120W fast charging is more popular on the premise that the battery capacity does not shrink. Some users who are using the vivo X80 Pro said that if the firm adopts the 120W charging scheme, they will buy the new version.

The vivo X80 adopts a 4500mAh battery, supporting 80W wired charging instead of wireless charging. The firm claims that the smartphone can be fully charged in 34 minutes. The vivo X80 Pro model has a built-in 4700mAh battery, which supports 80W wired charging to get the phone fully charged in 38 minutes. At the same time, the Pro model also supports 50W wireless charging, which can fully charge the smartphone in 50 minutes.

In addition, the blogger said that vivo’s next move concerns the system upgrade. In terms of hardware, vivo will release new flagship smartphone after August. Vivo’s sub-brand iQOO is trying adapting the Dimensity 9000+ processor on its Neo series, as well as the Snapdragon 8+, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 on the X series.

According to data released by the IDC at the end of July, vivo ranked second among smartphone manufacturers in the second quarter of 2022, and its market share increased from the first quarter. Thanks to the good performance of the iQOO flagship series in online markets in June and the high recognition of the vivo X series in online and offline markets, vivo’s high-end market share in the second quarter has reached the highest point.
