Huawei to Unveil Mate 30 Series in Germany on September 19

Huawei has announced on its official Twitter account that it will be revealing its highly anticipated new Mate 30 series flagships in Munich, Germany on September 19. The Chinese telecommunications giant has, aside from the Mate 20 launch in London, unveiled its previous Mate series flagships in Munich. The tagline for the upcoming launch in mid-September is “Rethink Possibilities.”

Even though Huawei has confirmed its intention to move ahead with the launch, the company has yet to answer the looming question of how it plans to circumvent the issue of being unable to use Google’s Android operating system, as US companies are still banned from doing business with Huawei.

According to The Verge, a Google spokesperson has expressed doubts that the upcoming handset will come with Google apps like Maps, Photos and Gmail. However, the upcoming handsets will likely still feature Huawei’s own EMUI 10, the company’s user interface built on top of Google’s Android Q, which adds more mystery to Huawei’s strategy of addressing its current disposition with the Alphabet subsidiary and the challenges for users who’re planning to purchase the phone.

Unverified leaks indicate that the Mate 30 Pro will feature a quadruple camera setup housed in a large circular module and a “waterfall” display with extremely curved edges. Chinese media have speculated that the quad-cam setup will accommodate two 40MP primary sensors, a 8MP ultra-wide angle lens and a telephoto lens.

Aside from the camera department, Huawei’s Mate series flagships have always boasted the most robust chipsets. The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will likely be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 990 platform due to make its debut at IFA 2019 at the end of this coming week. There are also additional rumors that the phones will 5G-ready upon launch and support both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA), which is to say the 5G networks will be supported by existing 4G infrastructure.
