Huawei Mate 40 Series to Be First Smartphone to Support China’s New Digital Yuan

Huawei Mate 40 series will feature a built-in hardware wallet for the Chinese digital yuan, announced Chengdong Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business on Friday. It is the first smartphone that supports the digital yuan hardware wallet.

The Huawei Mate 40 series boasts hardware-level security and anonymity protection, creating a beneficial environment for the use of the digital yuan on mobile phones, the company said.

The dual offline transactions will create a safe and convenient payment experience. With a phone number, users can access their hardware wallet through their Huawei smartphone to use the digital yuan. Payments can be completed by touching devices together, even in places with poor reception.

Huawei actively engaged in the research of regulations for the hardware wallet and provided technological support for the construction of offline transactions and other wallet functions such as deposit/withdrawal and making payments. In addition, Huawei is actively pushing the innovation and practice of the digital yuan in Shenzhen.
