Huawei and Xiaomi Strike Global 5G Patent Cross-Licensing Deal

On September 13th, Huawei and Xiaomi announced today that they have reached a global patent cross-licensing agreement, which covers communication technologies including 5G.

Huawei’s Chief of Intellectual Property Department, Alan Fan, stated: “Huawei is pleased to reach a licensing agreement with Xiaomi. This license agreement once again demonstrates the industry’s recognition of Huawei’s contributions in the field of communication standards and allows us to strengthen our research investment in future mobile communication technologies.”

Xu Ran, General Manager of the Strategic Cooperation Department at Xiaomi Group, stated: “We are pleased to have reached a patent cross-licensing agreement with Huawei. This fully demonstrates mutual recognition and respect for each other’s intellectual property rights. Xiaomi will continue to uphold its values regarding intellectual property rights, respect such rights, seek win-win and long-term sustainable intellectual property partnerships, and use intellectual property to promote technology inclusiveness, allowing technology to benefit a wider range of people.”

As previously reported, Huawei and Xiaomi have experienced some patent disputes, which have also sparked discussions among netizens from all sides. Now that an agreement has been reached, it can be considered a win-win situation for everyone.
