2019 Shanghai Auto Show kicked off today with various carmakers showcasing their latest technology, concept cars and new vehicles ready for launch.
One particular category that attracted great attention at the show, or rather in the Chinese market in recent years, is electric vehicles (EV). Both international and homegrown brands have brought in new models for their debut at the largest auto show in the world.
Chinese EV maker Xpeng Motors revealed a new all-electric coupe dubbed P7 in Shanghai. As a medium-to-large EV, the P7 claims to be able to reach 100 km/h in 4 seconds and have a 600 km NEDC range. The model, powered by Xavier, also uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820A chip and aims to offer L3 autonomous driving. Pre-orders opened today and delivery is expected to start in Q2 next year.
Another Chinese EV manufacturer NIO brought in its ET Preview, a preview version of ET7 which will be launched in 2020. The information on size, configuration and price remains unknown at this point, but the exterior design and lights resemble those on the ES6.
Other brands such as Volkswagen, BYD and WM Motor also have new EV models to present at the auto show. Amidst the recent hit in sales in the Chinese auto market, EV makers are rubbing their hands ready for fierce competition.
