Chinese Mobile Game Developers Earn More Than $2.3B in April

According to a report released by Sensor Tower Store Intelligence Platform on Thursday, in April 2022, a total of 38 Chinese mobile game developers were included in the Top 100 global mobile game publishers’ revenue list. In total, these mobile game companies garnered more than $2.22 billion, accounting for nearly 40.2% of the total revenue of the global Top 100 developers.

It is worth noting that this data only counts publisher revenue, and it does not include third-party Android channels in China.

In terms of revenue ranking of Chinese mobile game publishers, the top 10 are Tencent Games, NetEase Games, miHoYo, FunPlus, 37Games, Lingxi Games, Lilith Games, Leiting Games, Bole Games and IM30.

Tencent‘s “Return to Empire – Age of Empires Mobile” launched on March 29 ranked 9th on the iOS best-selling list for mobile games in China in April. In addition, Peacekeeper Elite also performed well. Tencent‘s mobile game revenue increased by 4% month-on-month in April 2022.

According to the report, on April 28, after NetEase ushered in an update of its “Plant Crisis”, the game title The Day After Tomorrow hit a single-day flow peak since its release. NetEase, meanwhile, saw its revenue increase by 15% month-on-month in April as its game title Fantasy Westward Journey impressed gamers.

With the launch of the Japanese version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms in early April and the outstanding performance of Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Strategy Edition in the global market, Lingxi Games saw its revenue increase by 11% month-on-month in this same period, jumping up one place to 6th on the list.

The revenue of IM30’s three mobile games including Last Shelter: Survival, Rise of Empires, and Last Empire all saw higher numbers, boosting the publisher’s revenue by 12% year-over-year and moving it up five spots to the Top 10.

As for the mobile game revenue ranking in the App Store in China, The Top 10 are Honor of Kings, Game for Peace, Fantasy Westward Journey, Genshin Impact, Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Strategy Edition, League of Legends, CrossFire, One Mind Happy, Return to Empire – Age of Empires Mobile, and Wendao.
