China’s New Year’s Day Holiday Period Witnesses 960 Million Express Parcels Delivered Nationwide, Increase of 26.5% YoY

China’s State Post Bureau reported on Tuesday that between January 1 and 3, 920 million express parcels were collected, a year-on-year increase of 22.6%. Meanwhile, a total of 960 million express parcels were delivered, up 26.5% year-on-year.

According to the government’s “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan” on the postal industry business, it is estimated that by 2025, the annual business income of the postal industry will exceed 1.8 trillion yuan (about $28.2 billion), the average daily service users of the postal industry will be more than 900 million, and the express delivery business volume will exceed 150 billion pieces, forming a number of postal express delivery brands with an annual business volume exceeding 20 billion pieces or an annual business income exceeding 200 billion yuan.

Previously, on December 12, 2021, postal and express delivery enterprises nationwide collected 460 million postal (express) items, an increase of over 20% year-on-year.

The ‘Double Eleven Shopping Festival’ (referring to the date November 11) is one of the spikes during the peak season of express delivery every year in China. During this period in 2021 (November 1 to 16), national postal and express delivery enterprises collected 6.8 billion express parcels, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%. Meanwhile, a total of 6.3 billion express parcels were delivered, up 16.2% year-on-year.
