China’s ‘Double Twelve’ Shopping Festival Sees Record 460 Million Units of Mail and Express Delivery

On Monday, according to real-time monitoring data of China’s State Post Bureau, on December 12 this year, postal and express delivery enterprises in the country collected 460 million parcels, an increase of over 20% year-on-year and a new record high.

The ‘Double Twelve Shopping Festival’ (referring to the date December 12) is one of the small spikes during the peak season of express delivery every year. 

During the ‘Double Eleven Shopping Festival’ in 2021 (November 1 to 16), national postal and express delivery enterprises collected 6.8 billion express parcels, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%. A total of 6.3 billion express parcels were delivered, up 16.2% year-on-year.

On December 8, the State Post Bureau revealed at a press conference that China’s annual express delivery business exceeded 100 billion pieces, ranking first in the world for eight consecutive years. 

It was also added that express delivery has supported online retail sales of commodities, agricultural products, manufacturing, and cross-border e-commerce sales to reach new highs. 

Eight express delivery companies have successfully listed publicly, among which three have formed brand groups with annual business volume exceeding 10 billion and income exceeding 100 billion yuan ($15.71 billion).
