CAICT: Shipment of Mobile Phones in Chinese Market Reaches 21.44 Million Units in September

CAICT, a think tank under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, released a report on Tuesday regarding the domestic mobile phone market. In the month of September, the shipment of mobile phones in the Chinese market reached 21.44 million units, down 8.1% year-on-year, among which were 15.118 million 5G mobile phones, up 8.1% year-on-year, accounting for 70.5% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In the third quarter of 2021, the shipments of mobile phones in the domestic market totaled 7,442.2 units, up 2.6% year-on-year, among which 55.64 million units were 5G mobile phones, up 26.3% year-on-year, accounting for 74.8% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

Over the past nine months, domestic mobile phone shipments were 249 million units, up 10.2% year-on-year, among which 183 million units of 5G mobile phones were shipped, up 70.4% year-on-year, accounting for 73.8% of the mobile phone shipments in that same period.

In September, 58 new mobile phone models were released in China, down 3.3% year-on-year, including 24 5G mobile phones, down 14.3% year-on-year. The number of new phone models was 354, the same as that of the same period of last year, including 172 5G mobile phones, up 1.8% year-on-year.

In terms of domestic and foreign brand composition in the domestic mobile phone market, in September 2021, domestic brand shipments totaled 20.268 million units, down 6.0% year-on-year. Fifty-four new models were launched, up 10.2% year-on-year, accounting for 93.1% of the new mobile phone models unveiled in the same period.

In terms of domestic smart phone development, in September 2021, smart phone shipments reached 20.811 million units, down 5.4% year-on-year, accounting for 97.1% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. 53 new models of smart phones were released in the same month, up 23.3% year-on-year, accounting for 91.4% of the new models of mobile phones listed in the same period.
