Bilibili Unveils Creator Report, MAU Reaches 2.7 Million

Bilibili, a Chinese streaming platform, released its first creator report. According to the report, the creator group in the platform has grown rapidly, with 2.7 million active uploaders per month, up 61% year-on-year. The number of monthly contributions exceeded 10 million, an increase of 80% year-on-year.

In the period from September 2020 to August 2021, the total number of contributions submitted by creators exceeded 450 billion, which is equal to about 300 videos watched per user in China in Bilibili within the past year.

Of such numerous creators, 61% are male and 39% are female. 71% of the creators are between the age of 24 and 30. Surprisingly, the fastest growing group is middle-aged and above, that is, over 31, with a growth rate of 80%, and this group now accounts for 13% of all creators.

In terms of geographical distribution, the report pointed out that the top five provinces in terms of creator growth rate are Shanxi, Henan, Jiangxi, Hunan and Yunnan (in non-sequential order). Among them, creators in Shanxi Province mostly focus on daily life and humorous videos. Henan Province focuses on human history, traditional Chinese style v-logging and campus learning. Most creators in Hunan Province are concentrated on the field of digital technology. Creators in Jiangxi Province prefer finance, business and daily life. Most uploaders in Yunnan Province mainly focus on popular science and handicraft videos.

In the past year, various knowledge videos have accounted for about 45% of the total video broadcast volume in Bilibili, and the scale of creators in knowledge areas increased by 92%. At present, more than 300 renowned teachers and scholars, 800 certified university numbers and nearly 10,000 colleges have registered accounts on Bilibili, covering nearly 100 subject majors. In the past year, 183 million people studied on Bilibili‘s platform.

In the past year, the video broadcast volume in the food area exceeded 24 billion. The scale of sports creators in the platform increased by 76%, emotion-related video creators grew by 105%, animal-related video creators increased by 59% while the cumulative interaction volume of ACGN culture videos reached 2.4 billion.

In terms of live-streaming, the cumulative number of hosts on Bilibili continues to rise. Since the end of 2018, the number of average monthly broadcast hosts have tripled.

Generally speaking, according to the data in the report, in 2021, Bilibili made great progress in opening its platform and encouraging diversification. The platform has gained a significant boost in the number of creators and the subject coverage of the videos it hosts.
