The short 30-second video showed what XPeng P5 has achieved: voice assistance, automatic lane-change turn signalling, recognition of traffic lights, countdown, change of lanes in advance, automatic left turns at unprotected intersections and other features. Besides, the interactive interface of XPeng‘s new P5 digital instrument is similar to that of its P7 at present.
In the video, a P5 vehicle turned left autonomously at a intersection of urban roads. This is an important part of the NGP for city driving supported by the XPILOT 3.5 driving assistance system that XPeng P5 is equipped with, and it is also one of the main application scenarios of its lidar sensors. It is estimated that by the first quarter of next year, Xpeng Motors will upgrade the NGP for city driving through OTA, and the opening sequence will shift from provincial highways to national highways and even to complex county roads.
In terms of automatic driving hardware, XPeng P5 includes two lidars, five millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 13 high-definition cameras and 32 sensors, plus a set of high-precision positioning units integrating vision, radar and an advanced driving assistance system to sense the car’s environment. This will greatly improve the car’s ability to detect pedestrians, static obstacles and small objects, and achieve the highest centimeter-level ranging accuracy.
XPeng P5 features a maximum power of 155 kW and a maximum torque of 310 Newton meters. The firm is devoted to battery safety in oder to achieve better battery thermal management.
The new product currently offers three kinds of NEDC cruising range, which are divided into lithium iron phosphate battery and ternary lithium battery versions. The battery capacities are 55.9 kWh, 66.2 kWh and 71.4 kWh, respectively, while the corresponding cruising ranges are 460 km, 550 km and 600 km.
XPeng P5 focuses on intelligent driving and cockpits, and is also equipped with a smart interactive cockpit based on Xmart’s OS 3.0 system for the first time.
Pandaily previously reported that XPeng P5 would be listed in September. Positioned as a compact car, this model has opened pre-orders, and the pre-sale price ranges from 160,000 yuan to 230,000 yuan ($25,000-$35,000).
