Reports surfaced on September 14 that Jim Yang, the former General Manager and Head of Global Studio at Finnish game firm Supercell, joined Genshin Impact‘s developer miHoYo earlier this month, according to his LinkedIn page. He now serves as President of HoYoverse, the international brand of miHoYo.
According to Yang’s public profile, prior to joining miHoYo, he held several positions engaged in enterprise development, strategy, investment and product management at Tencent and Riot Games, an American video game developer. He started his career with Morgan Stanley and PAG Capital, an Asian PE fund.
In February this year, miHoYo announced the official launch of a new brand, HoYoverse, aimed at creating and delivering immersive virtual world experiences for global players through various entertainment services. HoYoverse will expand its content production, technology research and distribution through offices in Montreal, Los Angeles, Singapore, Tokyo and Seoul.
It is worth mentioning that, according to firm co-founder Haoyu Cai, HoYoverse was established to create a grand virtual world driven by content, in which games, animation and other entertainment types are integrated to provide players with a high degree of freedom and immersion.
Yang has now taken over the post of President of HoYoverse, and he is expected to provide assistance for miHoYo’s overseas promotion strategy and brand development with his profound experience in games and company operation and development.
