Riot Games announced on January 7 the first official global competition entitled “Wild Rift Icons Global Championship,” set to take place this summer in Europe.
Leo Faria, Global Head of Wild Rift E-sports, explained in a video: “League of Legends: Wild Rift has proven to be a popular mobile title in the first year since its release. The first global event for Wild Rift, the Wild Rift Horizon Cup, took place in Singapore last November.”
This year, regional competitions will run from January to May, featuring the best teams in unique leagues and tournaments around the globe. Regional champions will then qualify for the firm’s first official global tournament, the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship.
The tournament will feature 24 teams, including eight qualifying straight from regional competitions and 16 battling through the play-in stage. The main event will feature a group stage, knockouts and the grand finals.
