On August 9th, it was announced that LinkedIn China‘s localized job-seeking app, LinkedIn Career, with over 1 billion users worldwide, will officially cease operations starting from August 9th, 2023. This means that the app will no longer be available for use as of today, including all products and services related to LinkedIn Career such as the mobile app, desktop website, and WeChat mini program.
LinkedIn was founded in 2002 and went public in the United States on May 20, 2011. It is a platform for sharing and learning about workplace and business experiences. In 2014, LinkedIn announced its entry into China. In June 2016, global technology giant Microsoft took an interest in LinkedIn and announced its acquisition at a price of $26.2 billion (approximately ¥188.378 billion).
“LinkedIn Workplace” was just launched on December 14, 2022. According to the South China Morning Post, this platform has been consistently lagging behind its domestic competitors since its launch. Based on data from market research firm “iResearch International,” in March of this year, the monthly active users of this platform were only 959,600. In comparison, 51job Inc. had a monthly active user count of 18.5 million, Boss Zhipin had 17.3 million, and Liepin had 6.7 million.
LinkedIn previously stated that in the future, its strategic focus in the Chinese market will be on assisting Chinese companies with talent recruitment, brand marketing, and skills training overseas. It also aims to help Chinese companies build international brands for their products and services and expand into foreign markets.
