Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Li Auto announced that its new SUV, the L9, will be unveiled on April 16, 2022 with a price range of 450,000 yuan to 500,000 yuan ($70,815-$78,683), depending on different configurations.
The standard L9 will come with its flagship intelligent driving system, Li Auto AD Max, which adoptsself-developed perception, decision-making, planning and control software. Among them, the automatic emergency braking function is optimized specifically for Chinese road conditions, which enhances the recognition of crossing pedestrians and two-wheeled vehicles, reduces traffic accidents, and realizes rapid iteration through a full-stack independent development capability.
The L9 uses high-performance cameras as its main sensors, and the hardware includes six 8-megapixel cameras and five 2-megapixel cameras, which can realize 360-degree sensing around the car and over a long distance. The combination of two 8-megapixel cameras in the front can realize recognition of vehicles, pedestrians, traffic cones and other objects in a wide-angle range of 120 degrees and as far as 550 meters.
The forward-facing auto-grade lidar is equipped with 128 lasers, with an overall resolution of 1200×128 and a point cloud count of 1.53 million per second. Its intelligent driving computing platform includes two NVIDIA Orin-X processors with a total computing power of 508 Tops.
When the L9’s intelligent driving mode is on, the safe driving interaction screen and head-up display will provide the most important environment and warning information to the driver.
Regarding the interior, Li Auto‘s L9 adopts a new capacitive induction steering wheel, fatigue and attention warning system, which can ensure the driver uses the intelligent driving function correctly. The driver’s electric pre-tightening seat belt can provide more direct tactile feedback when necessary. Outside the car, the new model is equipped with five intelligent driving assistance lights, which are used to indicate the working status of intelligent driving mode to pedestrians and other vehicles in the vicinity.
After the driver leaves the vehicle, the 3D ToF sensor used by the L9 can sense the cockpit environment in real time, while the camera outside the vehicle can monitor the surroundings, providing a sentry mode, covering both inside and outside the vehicle.
In terms of car body safety protection, Li Auto L9 uses more than 80% of high-strength steel and hot-formed steel. The front has double aluminum alloy anti-collision beams, which can effectively compress the frontal impact force when collision occurs. The battery pack adopts the double protection design composed of a side protection beam and an aluminum alloy shell.
