The e-commerce unit of Chinese short video platform Kuaishou announced on Wednesday that product links with Taobao and JD.com will be excluded from some Kuaishou interfaces from 00:00 on March 1, 2022, due to changes in its cooperation agreements with the third-party e-commerce platforms.
According to the announcement, Taobao Alliance products will not be able to publish goods and service links in shopping carts of livestreaming channels or short videos. Business details pages in Kuaishou will also exclude those products. JD.com Alliance products will also not be able to publish goods and service links in the shopping cart of Kuaishou livestreaming channels. However, they can publish links in short video shopping carts and business details pages.
In the announcement, Kuaishou e-commerce also suggested that merchants settle accounts and process after-sales orders in advance, and deal goods through Kuaishou Xiaodian dubbed “little shops.”
Kuaishou e-commerce has disconnected external links in the past. In November last year, it was reported that since the end of November 15, Kuaishou e-commerce has blocked third-party links of e-commerce service firms Youzan and Mockuai.
At that time, the operation team of Youzan announced later that, due to changes in the content of the cooperation agreement between Youzan and Kuaishou e-commerce, since 24:00 on November 15, its links would not be put on the shopping carts in the Kuaishou livestreaming channels. This adjustment would only affect the livestreaming part, while short videos, host’s personal homepages and store pages would not be affected. Consumers can place orders for purchases as normal.
According to LatePost on Wednesday, Kuaishou completed an e-commerce gross merchandise value (GMV) of 680 billion yuan in 2021, which exceeded the original target of 650 billion yuan ($107.6 billion). The report also mentioned that Kuaishou e-commerce has set the target range of GMV in 2022 at 900 billion to 970 billion yuan.
