Huawei Teases Foldable 5G Phone To Be Unveiled At MWC 2019
It looks like Huawei will be joining the fray along with its competitors in becoming the first to release a foldable smartphone this year.
The company posted a teaser image on Twitter on Feb. 2 to promote its Mobile World Congress 2019 press conference, showing the phone bent to a v-shaped silhouette and asking, “Are you ready to reveal the unprecedented?”

Although specs and designs of the device are still unknown yet, the company has confirmed that it will in fact be 5G ready at launch on Feb. 24 at its Pre-MWC Briefing.
Last October, CEO of Huawei, Richard Yu, confirmed that the Chinese maker already had a working prototype of a flexible smartphone, and then in March of this year patent diagrams of a foldable Huawei phone emerged.

Smartphone companies have been reexploring the foldable concept to give users the ability to expand a handset’s screen size while keeping the device compact enough to carry around.
The company has been rather active on the front of 5G development with the release of its 5G chipset and modem just last month.
Given China’s current US trade tensions and Huawei’s legal woes in the US, it’s unsure whether or not the smartphone will be available to users in the United States.
