Xiaomi Auto Obtains Automated Driving Patent

According to Chinese commercial information platform Tianyancha, a patent entitled “Automatic Overtaking Mechanism, Device, Vehicle, Storage Medium and Chip” applied for Xiaomi Auto Technology Co. has recently been published.

Focusing on autonomous driving technology, the patent involves an automatic overtaking mechanism, device, vehicle, storage medium and chip. The overtaking mechanism will be activated with the distance between the vehicle and its preceding vehicle, at less than a preset threshold. By determining the type and speed of the preceding vehicle, an overtaking decision will be made by analyzing the vehicle type, the initial speed, distance and a detected second speed.

The summary of the patent also said that the above mechanism regards the vehicle type as the necessary consideration of the algorithm, so that the vehicle can accurately carry out the overtaking and lane change process based on current situation, thus bringing better automated driving experiences to passengers.

According to the public information, the patent application date was April 28, 2022, and it was announced on June 3. Since December 2021, Xiaomi Auto has published more than 20 patents.
