WeChat Adds Delivery Services to Its All Built-In Functions

WeChat added delivery services to its mini programs last week, another feature to make WeChat a super app that is almost equivalent to an operating system.

The mini program pops up as you type in “delivery” in WeChat. Three functions show on the front page: packages tracking, mail & shipping and personal orders. Four courier options available include Yunda Express, ZTO Express, Best Express and JD.

WeChat offers similar prices to logistics companies like Cainiao. Take a standard shipping within Beijing as an example, for one-kilogram package, Yunda and ZTO ask for 10 yuan, Best and JD charge 12 yuan. You can also schedule a pickup on WeChat where JD promises to show up within an hour, Yunda comes within two hours, ZTO and Best will pick up by the end of the day.

As for business customers, WeChat has offered logistics services since last year where companies can easily be connected with multiple couriers so to provide better services and lower prices to consumers.

“WeChat is a lifestyle,” said Allen Zhang, the founder of the app.

Instead of being merely a messaging app or building separate apps for different functions, WeChat embraces all the features in one app comparable to Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Paypal and more at once, thus you can basically live upon this single app in China. Now WeChat has more than 1 billion monthly active users globally who send about 38 billion messages every day.
