Vivo Launches VISION+ Initiative in Partnership with National Geographic to Establish a Visual Content Ecosystem

Vivo launched on Sept. 7 a global initiative, VISION+, in partnership with National Geographic at a press conference at the Enjoy Museum of Art in Beijing, aiming to build a visual content ecosystem, reaffirm the brand’s commitment to user-centric design and its pioneering position in mobile photography technology.

Michael Chang, Vivo’s General Manager of Branding, said the genesis of Vivo VISION+ is derived from the company’s dedication to mobile photography and culture.

“We aspire to give more people tools of visual self-expression and the opportunity to document highlights in their lives,” Chang said. “We hope to collaborate on more authentic and personalized content with creators to illustrate our brand culture. These initiatives are an opportunity to educate users on our technological advancements and visual aesthetic exploration.”

According to the press conference, the VISION+ ecosystem contains several components: Vivo VISION+ Mobile Photography Awards launched jointly with National Geographic, the Vivo VISION+ Mobile Photography Academy, the Vivo VISION+ Master Class, the Vivo VISION+ Youth Program, and the Vivo VISION+ Photographers Federation.

The Vivo VISION+ Mobile Photography Awards allows global smartphone users to showcase their photography skills with outstanding entries being submitted for international photography awards. The theme and progress of the contest will be published on the official websites of both parties, and the world’s renowned photographers, including Steve McCurry and Michael Halsband, will be invited to partake.

Wang Yan, Head of National Geographic Branded Content and Partnership, said at the event that National Geographic has always embraced the diversity of humanity in order to deliver excellent content, adding that Vivo’s coherent value has laid the foundation of the two parties’ cooperation over the years.

“As early as 2014, Vivo and National Geographic initiated an image co-creation activity to promote the technological advances of mobile photography. Since then, technology has seen groundbreaking advancements, and this new cooperation will allow us to explore further,” Wang said.

The Vivo VISION+ Mobile Photography Academy is a public photography education initiative, providing an artistic and cultural exchange platform for the masses, according to the press conference.

At the Academy, photography lovers will learn to discover, understand, and convey the creative spirit of mobile photography. World-class photographers will join the academy and teach master classes to Vivo users and photography fanatics, providing a cultural exchange platform for the community.

Vivo will also launch a youth training camp, the VISION+ Youth Program, for aspiring photographers in colleges and universities to learn, communicate, create, and refine their photography skills.

The core foundation of the “VISION+ Photographers Federation” is JOY IMAGE, uniting like-minded and excellent photographers around the world. Vivo hopes to collaborate with more creators to explore the limitless possibilities of mobile photography, which will ultimately contribute towards the technological advancements and aesthetic developments of Vivo product design.

In order to attain these goals, Vivo is vigorously carrying out technical development processes.

At the event, Li Zhuo, Director of Digital Imaging Product of vivo, said a sensor with RGBW matrix has been discreetly developed by vivo for one year. Theoretically, its photosensitive efficiency is measured to be 160% of the conventional RGGB matrix. This technology will push the photosensitivity of smartphones to a new level, capturing precise and clear images under various adverse light conditions.
