The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) recently issued a new notice against what it calls "chaotic" online fan culture.
Gong Yu, CEO of iQiyi, said at a symposium organized by the China TV Artists Association (CTAA) on Wednesday that iQiyi has cancelled its idol talent show and any offsite voting features on the platform for next few years.
Domestic authorities contend that the move is designed to put an end to the 'chaos' of online fan clubs, the Securities Times reported on Thursday.
Fan Chengcheng is the younger brother of Fan Bingbing, one of the biggest stars in China today, and a celebrity in his own right with around 3 million followers on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. He recently participated in Idol Producer, an entertainment reality show popular among young girls.
