Shipments of BOE Display Screens Rank First Globally for Three Consecutive Years

Chinese screen manufacturer BOE on December 21 released the country’s first tech brand focused on semiconductor displays, including three sub-brands: ADS PRO, f-OLED and α-MLED.

ADS PRO represents BOE’s unique LCD technology, which has the advantages of full perspective and an ultra-high refresh rate. f-OLED represents BOE’s unique flexible OLED technology which has the advantages of gorgeous colors, changeable shapes and high functional integration. α-MLED represents the new glass-based LED display system, which has the characteristics of ultra-high brightness and contrast, as well as a low stroboscopic effect.

At a press conference, Liu Xiaodong, president of BOE, said that according to data from Omdia, a professional research and consulting organization, in the fields of smartphones, tablets, laptops, monitors and televisions, the overall shipments of display screens made by BOE have ranked first in the world for three consecutive years.

In terms of patents, as of 2020, BOE has accumulated more than 70,000 patents ready for use. In the statistical report on the number of patents granted in the U.S. in 2020 released by IFICLaims, a U.S. patent service agency, BOE has risen to 13th in the world, ranking among the top twenty globally for three consecutive years.

In 2020, BOE invested nearly 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) in R&D. In addition, BOE has established a national engineering laboratory, a Beijing innovation headquarters and three innovation sub-centers. In terms of its talent team, BOE currently has nearly 20,000 R&D employees, of which half have master’s degrees or above.

In the first three quarters of this year, BOE achieved revenue of 163.2 billion yuan, up 72% year-on-year, and its net profit reached 20 billion yuan, up over 7 times year-on-year.
