SemiDrive Technology Releases E3 Series Automotive Microcontrollers

On Tuesday, SemiDrive Technology Ltd., a Chinese smart car microchip developer, released its E3 series microcontrollers.

SemiDrive’s E3 series automotive microcontroller adopts a TSMC 22nm automotive grade which can be used in many automotive application fields such as chassis by wire, brake control, BMS, ADAS, LCD panel, HUD, streaming media system, CMS, among others.

The E3 series microcontroller is designed to reach high stability and safety levels. Its vehicle specification is AEC-Q100 Grade 1, and the functional safety standard is ISO 26262 ASIL D.

Sun Mingle, chief architect of SemiDrive Technology, talked about the adoption of the company’s products: “Before the the official launch of the E3 series products, there had already been nearly 20 clients designing their vehicles based on them in advance. At present, the E3’s full range of products have been open to customers for sample and development board applications, and mass production is expected to be realized in the third quarter of this year.”

Founded in 2018, SemiDrive Technology is a Chinese semiconductor company based in Nanjing, with R&D teams in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. At present, the company has served more than 250 clients. Previously, SemiDrive Technology released their X9, G9 and V9 System on Chip (SoC) solutions for intelligent consoles, autonomous driving and central gateways.

In addition to chip products, SemiDrive Technology has also created a complete ecology. Based on AUTOSAR software, SemiDrive has completed the integration with other mainstream AUTOSAR manufacturers at home and abroad, including Vector, EB, PwC, ETAS, NeuSAR, Hirain, and others. The adoption of the technology has enabled SemiDrive Technology’s products to quickly integrate with other manufacturers.

According to IHS data, the global automotive MCU market will be about $6.4 billion in 2020 and is estimated to reach $8 billion by 2023. SemiDrive Technology’s MCU products are also expected to help alleviate some of the current chip shortage.

In the field of autonomous driving chips, SemiDrive Technology said that it will launch an autonomous driving processor with 200 TOPS single computing power in the second half of this year. Its X9 series E-console chip has also won dozens of fixed-point models, covering domestic, joint venture factories and new automaker enterprises.
