Retail Platform Dmonstudio Closed After Rumors It Belongs to ByteDance

Dmonstudio, a women’s clothing retail website, was closed last Friday after it was rumored to be operated by Beijing-based tech firm ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.

According to an announcement to consumers published on Dmonstudio’s homepage, the website stopped operating on February 11, 2022. Consumers who have already purchased goods on the website can continue to enjoy after-sales services. If consumers have any questions about their order, they can contact the Dmonstudio team by email.

Checking the operation of Dmonstudio’s social media accounts, it is found that the platform’s Facebook page has been removed, while its Pinterest account is still public. On this platform, it is described as a “cheap & affordable fashion online” store, but only has 12 followers.

Just two days ago, Dmonstudio’s website homepage still showed a Valentine’s Day promotion. However, it then announced that the website would stop operating on February 11, three days before Valentine’s Day. According to a website monitoring agency, Dmonstudio’s domain name registration time was November 03, 2021, which means that the website only existed for 101 days.

Rumors have circulated throughout the industry recently that the Dmonstudio project belongs to the so-called “S-level” division within Chinese tech giant ByteDance, and is under the direct supervision of Kang Zeyu, the employee in charge of e-commerce for the company. The team also poached nearly 100 people from existing fashion platform SHEIN. According to an introduction before the closure of its website, Dmonstudio has millions of customers in more than 100 countries and regions around the world, including the United States, Europe and the Middle East, and launches more than 500 new products every week.
