Redmi Launches Its First Flagship Smartphone Redmi K20 Pro

On May 28, Redmi launched its first real flagship device, the Redmi K20 Pro. Alongside it, Redmi also released a non-pro version with lower specs, the Redmi K20. The two phones are priced starting at 2,499 yuan (~$360) and 1,999 yuan (~$290) respectively.

The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro feature a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a 7th-generation in-screen fingerprint sensor technology. The fingerprint recognition hardware and software have been optimized to improve the sensor’s rate and speed.

The K20 Pro is also the first in the smartphone industry to adopt a hardware DC dimming solution for its AMOLED display, which ensures color accuracy and eliminates flickering that often results from cameras filming a smartphone screen.

The 20MP selfie camera is installed into a pop-up module, a popular design solution adopted by many Chinese smartphone manufacturers to provide a full display. Redmi stressed the module’s durability and claimed that the pop-up camera can be opened and closed 100 times a day and still last for about 10 years.

The new flagship also sports a triple rear camera set-up with a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor. Additionally, there is a 3MP ultra-wide angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens.

Featuring a large 4,000mAh battery, the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro have power to last through a day of heavy use. The Pro supports 27W quick charging. and can charge up to 58 percent in 30 minutes.

The K20 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, whereas the K20 features the Snapdragon 730, making it a more affordable option for consumers.

The phones come in three colors; Carbon Black, Flame Red and Glacier Blue.
