OPPO Reno 2 Enters the European Market

At a launch event in London, OPPO released the OPPO Reno 2, its newest generation of Reno smartphones, to the European market.

Following last year’s Reno 10X Zoom, OPPO is now launching a more robust mid-range offering, the Reno 2. It has nearly the same camera setup, but instead of the 2-megapixel depth sensor it has a 13-megapixel telephoto lens — which allows for 5X hybrid zoom and 20X digital zoom.

In terms of appearance, the device is quite similar to the original Reno series, complete with the shark fin pop-up module housing the same 16 megapixel selfie camera and LED flash. However, the Reno 2 feels lighter and less bulky than its predecessor.

Reno 2 is powered by a Snapdragon 730G chip paired with 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage space. The 730G chipset is one tier below recent flagships which almost exclusively sport the SD855 or 855+, however it should be sufficient for the average user.

The phone packs a 4,000 mAh battery that taps into VOOC flash charge 3.0. It comes in two colors, luminous black and ocean blue and is priced at £449/€499. OPPO also announced plans to expand into Germany, Belgium, Portugal, and Ukraine in the future.

OPPO is one of the world’s five largest smartphone brands, and in the last quarter of 2018, the company saw a nearly 7% increase in global market share compared to the same period in 2017. In 2018 the company also achieved an overall increase in shipment volumes, whereas companies such as Apple and Samsung saw annual global shipment volumes decline in 2018, according to IDC.
