Promoters of the upcoming Chinese science-fiction movie “The Wandering Earth 2” released two trailers on domestic social media platform Weibo on December 19. The posts were evidently “sent from a OnePlus 11 Earth Engine Edition,” in which “Earth Engine” is a key element in the Wandering Earth. Meanwhile, Louis Li, the President of OnePlus China, posted that there was an “Easter egg” in the trailers released by The Wandering Earth official account, confirming that OnePlus will soon jointly launch a special-edition version, namely the OnePlus 11 Earth Engine Edition smartphone.
The movie Wandering Earth is adapted from a novel of the same name by Liu Cixin, a famous Chinese science fiction writer. It tells a story in which the sun is aging and expanding rapidly in a short time, and it will engulf the Earth in 100 years. Human beings all over the world are working hard to save the Earth. In order to keep more people alive, the Earth Coalition government launched the “Wandering Earth” program, intending to push the Earth away from the solar system and fly to a new galaxy 4.2 light-years away from the universe. The film is the highest-grossing sci-fi film in Chinese film history, with a total box office of 4.686 billion yuan ($671.6 million). The upcoming Wandering Earth 2 will focus on the prequel story of the novel.
OnePlus previously cooperated with The Wandering Earth 1 movie. In March 2021, the Chinese smartphone brand launched OnePlus 9, and Frant Gwo, the director of The Wandering Earth, appeared at the smartphone launch conference and released a micro-film named “The Man Leaving the Moon.” This short film was shot by director Frant Gwo with a OnePlus 9 series phone.
The smartphone company has not announced the release time of the One Plus 11 series, but on the ninth anniversary of OnePlus on December 17, it released a promotional video. This device has undergone a design adjustment to the rear camera module. A circular rear camera area was added and below the camera module, an area slightly higher than the back shell of the fuselage can be seen. The company said the new model will be released soon.
