Huawei Reveals Details About HarmonyOS and EMUI 10

On December 8 during the “Huawei Talk Theme Sharing” event in Shenzhen, President of Huawei‘s consumer business software department, Wang Chenglu, delivered a lecture about EMUI 10, the latest version of the Android-based OS used in Huawei phones. He also revealed new details about the company’s own HarmonyOS, saying that next year, it will be embedded in most Huawei terminal products in addition to mobile phones, tablets and computers. It is expected that HarmonyOS will be officially open sourced in August next year.

Talking about the advantages of EMUI to other versions of Android, Wang Chenglu noted that after long-term use most mobile phones face common problems such as accelerated power consumption, stalled operations, and frequent crashes. Four years ago, Wang and his team started to study the Android system’s stuttering problem. The root cause was found to be in the openness of the Android system and the improper operation by third parties.

Wang claims that Huawei managed to solve the problem. He mentioned that already in EMUI 5.0, Huawei introduced intelligent CPU, storage and memory scheduling, usage behavior prediction, and Android component optimization. Independent tests showed that the Huawei P10 series phones still operated smoothly after 18 months of use.

Additionally, an important highlight of EMUI 10 is “connection.” Wang said that all smart devices should be connected through software, which is the main feature of the EMUI 10, enabling seamless connectivity between Huawei devices.

“Now Huawei phones are mainly connected to their own products, and soon Huawei phones will be connected to terminal products of any brand,” said Wang Chenglu emphasizing that in the future, Huawei will help cars become the next super terminal.
