Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei Expects Company to Grow 10% or more in 2020

The CEO and founder of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei, said in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times that the company will experience “a certain scale of development” – roughly 10% – next year, clearing any concerns about growth in 2020.

Unlike Huawei’s senior team, who expect growth to scale in 2022, Ren believes that large growth will come a year earlier. “I think they are thinking more carefully, so the document I issued predicts that the scale of growth will begin in 2022,” he said to the reporter.

Huawei’s optimism comes despite the fact that it is still blacklisted by the US. Ren said that his company is mentally prepared for the scenario in which the United States never delist them.

Ren also emphasized that if American companies were willing to sell parts to his company, Huawei would look for ways to use them. According to Ren, Huawei will not narrowly follow the path of independent innovation and self-reliance, and will not shrink back to the Chinese market as a “threshold monkey” (门槛猴, Southern Chinese word to describe someone who feels all-powerful at home, but becomes timid outside).
