Huawei Affirms Globalization Strategy at MWC 2022

During this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2022) held in Barcelona, Guo Ping, Rotating Chairman of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, delivered an online speech declaring that Huawei will adhere to a globalization strategy, greatly increase its strategic investment in foundational technologies, and strive to reshape the fundamental theories, architecture, and software that underpin its industry. It thus can increase its mid- to long-term competitiveness and ensure sustainability of the ICT (information and communications technology) industry.

In terms of software reconstruction, Guo Ping mentioned that the computing power potential of diversified hardware will be brought into full play through HarmonyOS and EulerOS. Huawei is now building an AI-centered, full-stack software and a new software ecosystem to bring more opportunities for customers and the wider software industry.

With the advancement of AI, various industries have accumulated higher demand for computing power. Huawei has proposed a “Software Performance Multiplication Plan,” whereby it will more effectively exert the computing power potential of diversified hardware through HarmonyOS and EulerOS. Through a “Mindspore” framework, it says it will help scientists and engineers improve their development efficiency.

As some analysts are wondering whether Huawei will gradually withdraw from overseas markets, Guo Ping issued the following retort: “Our answer is ‘no.’ For customers who choose us, Huawei will go all out to help them achieve commercial success. We will unswervingly implement the globalization strategy in terms of standards, talent and supply chains.”

At the sub-forum of the conference the day before, Ryan Ding, Executive Director and President of the Carrier BG at Huawei, revealed that the company, together with operators and partners, has signed more than 3,000 commercial contracts for 5G industry applications.

Ryan Ding claimed that 5G has been used in business settings for more than two years now, and that its development in terms of network coverage, terminals and user scale has exceeded expectations. By the end of 2021, more than 200 operators around the world have deployed 5G commercial networks, with more than 700 million 5G users and more than 1,200 commercial terminals.

In addition, on February 27, the day before MWC 2022 commenced, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, released seven new terminal products. He pointed out at the launch conference that the company will continue to apply HarmonyOS in 2022 to help achieve the “whole scenario smart life strategy.”
