GAC Group Releases New Battery Technology

GAC Group on Tuesday unveiled its next-generation super-energy lithium iron battery, based on microcrystalline technology. Cailian Press learned from sources familiar with the matter that the technology would be installed in the latest GAC AION models as early as next year.

Compared with the current mass-produced lithium iron phosphate cells on the market, super-energy lithium iron battery increases the cell mass energy density by 13.5%, the volume energy density by 20%, and the -20°C low temperature capacity by about 10%. Super-energy lithium iron battery can reach more than 2C for fast charging, and the power battery life can exceed 1.5 million kilometers.

By means of multi-path shunt technology, cathode potential energy buffer technology and OCV three-dimensional spatial response surface reconstruction technology, super-energy lithium iron battery technology solves issues such as a slow charging rate, low battery capacity and weak performance of LiFePO4 batteries.

The “ADiGO Smart Driving and Connected Ecosystem,” which is most common on GAC car models, has also evolved. The main upgrades are in the “ADiGO SPACE Smart Cockpit” and the “ADiGo PILOT Smart Driving.” The ADiGO SPACE intelligent cockpit has been upgraded to include voice recognition, sound, ecological content and scenery solutions.

Regarding ADiGo PILOT intelligent driving, the new model will feature up to 39 intelligent sensors, and it will cover three second-generation LIDARs, 5G communication hardware, six 8-megapixel high-precision cameras, high-precision positioning units, and more, which can achieve a monitoring range covering 200m around the vehicle.

GAC also introduced SPACE, a new hydrogen energy concept vehicle, and a new electrified powertrain architecture. SPACE is designed as an MPV, but with very chic falcon wing doors.

GAC also unveiled a new hydrogen energy power system, which consists of a 1.5L hydrogen engine, two-speed dual motor, and plug-in power battery. According to data released by GAC, the hydrogen consumption of this engine is less than or equal to 0.84kg/100km, and it has successfully run for more than 12,000 hours.
