CMGE and DreamWorks Animation LLC to Jointly Launch New Mobile Games

China Mobile Games and Entertainment Group Limited (CMGE) announced on August 5 that it has obtained a full range of IP authorization under DreamWorks Animation LLC, and it will invent and launch the first IP All-Star mobile game globally, tentatively called the “DreamWorks Animation Alliance.”

This new mobile game, developed by CMGE and launched globally, will bring together many familiar DreamWorks animation and film series IP. At present, the well-known works that have been disclosed include many popular and brand-new works, such as the Shrek series, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and the Bad Guys. The star characters in these works will also appear in the game to accompany the players on their adventures.

This cooperation with DreamWorks Animation will further strengthen the company’s R&D and distribution businesses in the world’s top IP games market, which is an important measure for the firm to develop the global market. It is expected that the global launch of the DreamWorks Animation Alliance will drive the company’s game business revenue to grow more rapidly.

The firm released its 2021 annual performance report on April 3, which shows that it achieved a total operating income of 3.957 billion yuan ($586.4 million), a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. The report also mentioned the sale results of console games such as “Chinese Paladin: Sword and Fairy 7” and “RichMan 10.” Meanwhile, the company officially said that “RichMan 11” will be launched in the second half of 2022.

The company is also attempting to broaden its layout in the metaverse field. On the one hand, based on its own IP reserves and R&D advantages, it built a “Sword and Fairy IP Metaverse” with the launch of game called “Legend of Sword and Fairy: World” and trading, consuming and playing freely in the Xianjian Lingjing (Sky City) as the core. It also created a world in which resources are shared and users can live, interact and create freely. At the same time, “Youyu Art,” its digital art copyright distribution platform, was launched. Relying on the first industry public “copyright chain” and digital copyright certificate system led by departments of China’s National Copyright Administration, it has launched diversified and high-quality digital collections focusing on many IPs such as Sword and Fairy and RichMan.
