China’s ‘The Battle at Lake Changjin’ Becomes Country’s Highest Grossing Film Ever, Huawei and XRender Provide Cloud Rendering Support

According to ticketing platform Maoyan Pro, as of Thursday, Chinese war epic ‘The Battle at Lake Changjin’ has been released for 56 days, during which time the cumulative box office total has exceeded 5.695 billion ($891 million), marking it the highest grossing film in Chinese film history.

Huawei offered its congratulations on Weibo, unveiling the cloud rendering service platform XRender created by Zanqi Technology, with the support of Huawei Cloud, which provided great computing for the movie’s digital rendering.

According to reports, the computing support comes from the Huawei Cloud Data Center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, the largest rendering base of Huawei Cloud in the world. The data center provides top-level rendering computing for industries including films, TV series, construction and medicine technologies.

“A 90-minute 3D movie, which used to take six months to render, now only takes two weeks.” At present, the Huawei Cloud Data Center in Ulanqab has provided more than 300,000 cores of cloud rendering computing support for partners in film and television production industries such as Zanqi Technology, Landhigh Tech and MOREVFX.

The construction of the Huawei Cloud Data Center in Ulanqab is divided into four phases, with a planned total of 26,000 server racks and a total scale of nearly 30,000 racks. After the completion of construction, the total number of servers will reach 500,000, making it the largest cloud data center in northern China.

According to the film introduction, The Battle at Lake Changjin depicts the “story of Chinese soldiers defeating American troops despite great odds” at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean war. The filming took 180 days, and more than 50 companies in China and abroad contributed to post-production efforts, striving to present the truest texture and film scenario.

Among them, XRender provided great rendering resources for the film, and the company’s many teams of engineers worked for the progress of the project around the clock to ensure that the project was completed on schedule and with good quality.
