China Launches Seven Communication and Remote Sensing Satellites

At 14:01 Beijing time on March 5, 2022, China successfully launched six communication satellites produced by Galaxy Space and one commercial remote sensing satellite by Four Squares Technology, using the Long March-2C carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. The satellites have successfully entered their intended orbits.

The seven spacecrafts, including the Xuancheng-1 satellite, are equipped with communication and remote sensing technology. Four Squares Technology developed the application of the satellites. They will cooperate with the ground data processing system self-developed by the firm to start the verification and application of China’s first low-Earth orbit (LEO) broadband communication tests.

Xi Xiaofei, founder and CEO of Four Squares Technology, pointed out that in addition to providing original satellite images, it has also deployed an intelligent ground data preprocessing system in Xuancheng, Anhui province. The system will support data processing services for three years, and will help local government realize accurate remote sensing applications such as natural disaster investigation and response, grain yield assessment and ecological environment monitoring.

At present, the strategic importance of LEO remote sensing satellites has become increasingly prominent. With the continuous improvement of satellite sensing accuracy, original data has multiplied. In addition, remote sensing, as a means to carry out emergency rescues and disaster relief, sea area monitoring, global target monitoring and other scenarios, needs to achieve minute-level response.

Many factors limit the speed of remote sensing information acquisition. According to Xi Xiaofei, existing remote sensing systems adopt periodic and batch operation modes, which have problems such as the communication duration time in which a satellite passes the ground site is too short, and that resources received by the ground site are insufficient. It is difficult to meet the needs of obtaining a large amount of remote-sensing information with a low delay. The integration of remote sensing and communication, combined with intelligent ground data processing systems, is an effective way to improve emergency response speed.

Four Squares Technology takes massive remote sensing satellite data analysis as its core technology. At present, it has launched business in the fields of government supervision, infrastructure projects, urban planning and environmental protection supervision. In the field of finance and insurance, it has reached cooperation agreements with many insurance institutions, banks and investment institutions to provide decision support in agricultural and engineering insurance and commodity investment. The firm has launched a variety of products on financial data platforms such as Xinhua Finance.
