On August 29, Chinese automaker Changan Automobile released its new brand Zhuge Intelligence, and unveiled the brand’s first vehicle model, the concept car CD701.
Zhu Huarong, chairman of Changan Automobile, said that the CD701 is Changan’s first car built on SDA architecture. The vehicle reflects Changan’s focus on providing a comprehensive travel experience enhanced by smart technology.
The interior is as if the vehicle is from some sci-if movie yet retains an element of minimalism with both an SUV and pickup design. The C-shaped light cluster has delineated stripes in the center while the sides slide backwards with five-spoke wheels, and the rear has typical taillights and adjustable ambient lighting.
Wind resistance is lessened by way of the low wind resistance wheels and streamlined exterior mirrors combined with other design features meant to give the vehicle both a sleek and efficient design both in terms of appearance and energy consumption. However, the vehicle doesn’t have instrument panel. It might adopt a HUD (heads-up display) design, but comes with a large screen in the central control area. It is expected that there will be some changes once the vehicle begins mass production. Finally, the seat backs and other interior materials employ environmentally friendly materials.
In early 2022, the company announced that it would focus on the SDA architecture in the future. It is expected to launch more than 20 new intelligent electric vehicles within the next five years, and 11 new products including coupes, SUVs and MPVs will be released in the next three years, the company said.
Zhu Huarong also shared his insights on the automotive industry and his plans for the future development of the company. “We will focus on intelligent products, manufacturing and management. We are firmly transforming into an intelligent low-carbon mobility technology company. By 2025, we will have successively launched more than 30 new intelligent network-connected products.”
