Byton Motors and SK Telecom Partner on Next Generation Cars

Byton Motors, a Chinese electric vehicle company, has signed a partnership agreement with SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest telecom operator. The two companies will cooperate on providing automobile users with various digital experiences. Byton is aiming to increase the attractiveness of their vehicles to South Korean customers, and SK Telecom’s digital products and services would augment Byton’s competitiveness in the auto market.

Ryu Young-sang, vice president and head of mobile network operations, SK Telecom, said, “The cooperation deal brings the cross-border integration of ICT to the automotive industry. SK Telecom will continue to work closely with global partners to create more quality products and services that enrich the lives of consumers.”

Daniel Kirchert, CEO of Byton said, “SK Telecom’s advantages in ICT, along with rich technical resources, complement Byton’s vision for smart vehicle future. The partnership will expand the digital experiences available to consumers, and explore future smart automotive services.”

Byton’s first delivery of vehicles should reach Chinese consumers in 2021, and should be fully compatible with 5G connectivity. The company’s factory in Nanjing has a reported capacity of 300,000 cars per year.

Byton also recently announced strategic cooperation with Marubeni Corporation to collaborate on energy solutions and overseas expansion, and the Japanese firm will join Byton’s Series C financing.
