According to data analysis platform App Annie, the first version of Viamaker was launched on April 14 by Shenzhen Lianmeng technology, which was acquired by ByteDance for $300 million in early 2018. Lianmeng is also the previous owner of popular selfie app Faceu.

The overseas version of the app is now available in four languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Users will be able to trim, subtitle, filter, and add effects to their video within the app. The overseas version of Viamaker has identical functions and features with its Chinese counterpart.

TikTok and its rival in the Chinese market, Kuaishou, have been competing in video editing apps to supplement their main short video products. Kuaiying, the video editing tool backed by Kuaishou, is second in terms of market share.
