Black Shark 5 Official Announcement: Powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Processor

Gaming smartphone company Black Shark announced on Friday that its Black Shark 5 series phones equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform will be launched soon.

It was previously revealed that this series of smartphones were to be equipped with an upgraded 4600mAh dual cell design, which would support 100W flash charging. The operating system will remain as JOYUI, which isa customized version of the MIUI OS, itself based on the underlying Android 12 system.

Black Shark is a gaming phone brand invested and developed by Black Shark and Xiaomi Technology. Chinese media outlet 36Kr previously reported that Tencent planned to acquire Black Shark. Once the transaction was completed, the company’s future business focus would shift from gaming to VR devices as a whole. Tencent was responsible for providing content while the company would provide the hardware for VR. Tencent had no comment on this acquisition.

However, @Digital Chatting Station, a digital blogger on Weibo, said that, despite such rumors, the Black Shark 5 phones were still in normal iteration. Moreover, the development codes of its two new phone models were Katyusha and Patriot, among which the KTUS-A0 had already been filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
