Apple Announces Carbon Neutrality in Worldwide Corporate Operations, Doubles 100% Renewable Suppliers in China

Apple announced a new commitment to clean energy by its Chinese suppliers via its official website on Thursday. The firm says 50 Chinese companies have joined suppliers’ clean energy projects, twice higher than last year. Also, Apple has now achieved carbon neutrality in its global corporate operations, and will impose zero impact on the environment for producing any Apple product by the end of 2030.

In another report published last July, Apple announced plans to achieve 100% carbon neutrality in the supply chain and the whole product life cycle in 2030. Since then, Apple has greatly increased the number of suppliers turning to renewable energy.

Apple said that up to now, 50 Chinese companies have joined Apple’s supplier clean energy project, and 175 suppliers around the world plan to transition to renewable energy. Apple and its suppliers will bring more than 9 gigawatts of clean energy, and thus reduce 18 million tons of carbon dioxide every year, which is equivalent to the carbon produced by nearly 4 million cars.

In addition, Apple continues to enrich the content and services of suppliers’ energy efficiency projects in the supply chain, and is trying to reduce the energy consumption required for production. The cooperation with the supply chain helps Apple to reduce more than 900,000 tons of carbon emissions every year.

In addition to increasing investment in renewable energy, Apple also reduces carbon emissions by recycling gold, cobalt, aluminum and rare earth elements, and by increasing natural resource protection.

As environmental protection attracts more attention in recent years, more companies are making their own environmental protection plans. Apple has always attached importance to environmental protection, and is using its influence to promote related enterprises in different fields to turn to clean energy and contribute to China’s green transformation.
